Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Silas Mason
Class: 2020
Committed to: UNC-Asheville

Silas Mason has been a staple in North Carolina for several years, especially with his intriguing size, athleticism, and versatility on the floor.  His explosive play on the court stands out immediately and he uses his long length to his advantage on both ends of the floor.  Mason showed flashes of dominance all throughout the season at Ben L. Smith

This past season as a senior, Mason impressed and proved to be one of the top seniors in the state, averaging 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds and now he will be bringing that same explosive talent to UNC-Asheville.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'He's a long, wiry, explosive forward prospect that has made a ton of quality strides in developing his offensive game. Mason was previously tabbed as another typical athlete but has certainly put that idea to rest, given the way he runs the offense and controls the action for Ben L. Smith. He's shooting the ball as well as ever, both from mid-range and beyond the arc, and possesses a lot of versatility on both ends of the floor. Mason also knows how to properly lead by example, consistently defending, fighting on the glass, and making the smartest available play on offense.' ' Jeff Bendel in 2020

'here was so much to like with Smith's talent and approach, especially given the way Mason performed throughout this contest. He showcased consistent flashes of dominance and was able to be utilized in a variety of different ways on offense. Mason operated out of the high post, off the bounce, and as the primary creator, making him extremely difficult for the opposition to contain. He attacked the basket, knocked down jumpers (both off the catch and dribble), and made plays for others whenever possible. Mason fought on the glass and wreaked havoc with his defensive presence, altering shots, intercepting passing lanes, and pushing the break in transition with relative ease.' ' Game report evaluation

'Silas Mason is a highlight ready to happen. The southpaw has tremendous bounce and athleticism and is expanding his game and overall skillset. Known for his athleticism, Ben Smith head coach Derrick Partee put the ball in his hands more during June workouts and during team camps. Mason was used as a 'point forward' this past summer and we were quite impressed with his ability to make plays off the dribble/bounce. He is developing his game and has worked hard on his perimeter shooting skills. That being said, Mason has the ability to take over a game on both ends of the court.' ' Rick Lewis in 2018
