Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: LJ Thomas
Class: 2022
Committed to: NC State

What is NC State getting:

I have seen many outlets put this out already but Phenom Hoops has watched Thomas on so many occasions, we can certainly verify this statement… LJ Thomas is one of the most underrated prospects in the country and NC State just got a tremendous talent for the future of their program. When you talk about his game, Thomas is such a smooth operating guard, making play after play, showcasing a blend of getting others involved but also being that scoring firepower and knowing when he needs to take over. With his build, his strength, his IQ, his pace, and his feel for the game, there isn’t much that Thomas can’t do on the floor. He can get whatever shot he wants, makes tough plays, and just understands how to put the ball in the hoop and make it look effortless at times. The Wolfpack just got better today with the commitment of Thomas, another great in-state grab for NC State.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“It’s pretty widely accepted that Thomas is as polished as anyone in North Carolina in terms of scoring the ball. However, he consistently shows flashes of capabilities as a playmaker while operating as the undisputed leader of this team. Thomas can get any shot he wants, regardless of context or defensive pressure, and converts at a high percentage from multiple areas. He’s a useful defender and rebounder for his size and position.”

“Like various others in the class, LJ Thomas really burst onto the scene upon relocating to North Carolina last summer. He quickly grabbed the keys of Bull City Prep and never turned back. Though he might not be a true point guard, Thomas largely represents the modernized version of a floor general. His ability to generate quality scoring chances from everywhere on the floor makes him an absolute problem for most opposing backcourt players. Add in his vision and useful playmaking sense, and Thomas can effectively run a team for various stretches. He’s also a well-rounded athlete with IQ, craftiness, and defensive tools. Thomas is arguably at his best in the open floor, but also stands out as a reliable three-level scoring option in the half-court as well. His omission from national rankings is pretty ludicrous, but folks should become wise sooner than later.”

“LJ Thomas moved to Charlotte from Atlanta to attend Bull City Prep. The point guard has quickly solidified himself as on of the top players in the state. Thomas averaged 18.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44% from the field this past season at Bull City Prep. He helped lead his team to the semifinals of the Phenom Hoop State Championship. Thomas is a strong, scoring point guard who has the ability to take and make tough shots. He utilizes his strong frame to create space, draw fouls, and finish through contact. Thomas can score from all three levels.”

“Thomas continues to prove just how prolific of a scorer he can be. He operates so well on the court, plays with great poise, and just has a knack of scoring so smoothly offensively. Still think he is an underrated player nationally.”
