Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Cohen Gaskins
Class: 2021
Committed to: Converse

What the Player Said:

Q: What made Converse the place for you in the end?
Gaskins: I was a huge fan of the coaching staff and fell in love with the idea to be apart of the first team ever and make history for the school.

Q: How did you inform them and what did they say when you told them about your decision?
Gaskins: I got on a zoom call with the coaching staff and let them know I’m ready to make history.  They were super excited and it made me know I made the right decision.

Q: What do they hope you can bring to the team and program? As far as your game.
Gaskins: I’m a do-it-all type guy.  I can give them versatility at the guard position.  Whether it’s getting people involved or scoring when needed.

Q: What will you be focusing on now with your decision behind you?
Gaskins: My high school basketball season with James Island high school and winning the state championship with my team.

Last Season’s Stats:

Last season, Gaskins posted nightly averages of 23.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 3.2 APG, and 2.0 SPG while shooting 49% from the floor.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“He’s a smart, somewhat unassuming, team-first guard prospect with a fairly complete offensive arsenal and strong leadership qualities. Gaskins is a terrific creator, both for himself and others, and seems to apply nonstop three-level scoring pressure every time he takes the court. He’s very crafty and makes consistently sharp decisions with the ball in his hands. Gaskins is also an elite spot-up threat with the ability to make a two-way impact without necessarily requiring offensive touches.” – SC Top 80 in 2019

“Despite some minor struggles over the last month, Gaskins seems to have gotten out of his slump. It was especially evident during his first contest of the day, where he displayed vision and scoring ability on multiple levels. Gaskins has a very fundamental approach to the game and consistently shows an understanding of how to make the best possible play.” – Summer Havoc 2020
