What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“Elijah Strong is a 6’8” power forward going into his senior season at Myers Park High School. He’s a very strong post player and plays great, physical defense. He displays elegant post moves and fights to get every rebound and both sides of the ball. He also has great court vision and passing ability, he effortlessly finds open teammates and makes difficult passes.”
“From watching when he was just a freshman to where he is today, one can see that Strong has really put in the work to impact the game in a variety of ways. He continues to get stronger and really can create a tough matchup offensively. With his mid-range game, ability to knock down the three, and his physical frame to get on the boards.”
“We’ve seen different variations of sturdy, skilled post prospects emerge from Charlotte, and Strong appears to be the next in line. It’s easy to see his status as the clear leader of Myers Park, both by watching and looking at his nightly per-game averages. He leads the Mustangs in three of five major statistical categories and has definitely been among the top reasons for their on-court success. Strong can knock down jumpers from midrange or beyond the arc, but is arguably at his best when operating around the basket. He finishes well out of the post, and can make timely passes to cutting teammates if necessary.”
“Strong certainly fit his name… he had strong performances and really opened more eyes to how effective he can be on the floor as a forward. The 6’8 prospect displayed an incredible skillset and comfort in being a true down-low presence, showing terrific footwork and feel with his back to the basket and finding ways to get around defenders with touch. But what makes him tough on the floor is his feel along the perimeter and his ability to pick and pop, showing his range. He gave us a little bit of all, going for 20pts/8rebs in Game 1 and 21pts/13rebs in Game 2.”
“Elijah Strong is a skilled and versatile forward, and that was on full display. He finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. Strong was a force in the interior this game. He was active on the glass, finishing with put-backs. He showcased his ability to face up, create off the bounce, get into the paint, play under control, utilize ball fakes, footwork, and the ability to finish with either hand. On the defensive end, he played well both on the interior and out on the perimeter. He forced opponents to shoot tough shots in the post, and when he had to guard on the perimeter, he slid his feet, kept his man in front, and forced tough shots over his length. Strong is going to have an extremely productive junior season.”
