Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Michael Zanoni
Class: 2022
Committed to: Merce

What is Mercer getting:

Mercer is getting a terrific piece for their future in Michael Zanoni.  The 6’5 prospect comes from Greensboro Day under Coach Freddy Johnson, where he has continued to grow and develop his game to get him prepared for the next level. Zanoni’s blend of size, IQ, and understanding of the game should come in quickly and help this program.  There is no doubt about it, Zanoni is one of the top shooters in the state especially with his fluid form and confidence level from mid-range to beyond the arc.  But Zanoni also brings much more to the table; leadership, winning ways, ball-handling, a good defender, and a hard-working player that will only continue to develop his game even more.  Mercer has been making Zanoni a priority and was in during our open gym as well.  They are getting a great player that will really help on the court and a tremendous person off the court.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“He’s been a major factor in the success of Greensboro Day and Team CP3 throughout the last calendar year. Due to his understanding of how to effectively thrive within a role and apply pressure as needed, folks neglect to realize Zanoni’s IQ, well-rounded game, and overall capabilities as an offensive catalyst. Very few players across the state could find ways to match his impact with the limited number of touches, simply put. Add in the quality competition over his high school career, and the lack of offers genuinely doesn’t make sense. Futhermore, Zanoni is also a reliable secondary ball-handler with the tools to initiate offense or operate without the ball. He can effectively create his own shot within two to three dribbles, and converts a strong percentage of all his opportunities from the perimeter. That being said, Zanoni also knows how to attack closeouts and make smart decisions. He moves extremely well without the ball, displays incredibly sharp shooting mechanics, and knows how to expand his production as needed.” – Jeff Bendel in 2021

“Some may consider Zanoni the top shooter in the class of 2022 in North Carolina.  One could say make that case because one could have a lot of points to back that statement up.  One thing is for sure though, Zanoni is a game-changing shooter on the court and he has shown it on multiple occasions. The 6’5 prospect can be deadly when he squares up and gets to his spots, as he makes opponents pay time after time with his outside shooting, especially from three.” – Patrick O’Brien in 2021

“Zanoni continues to play excellent basketball.  He continues to be a player that squares up and knocks down shots from three and with his mid-range game, as he is looking to show why he may be the best shooter in his class in NC.”
