Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Kheni Briggs
Class: 2022
Committed to: Charleston Southern

What He Said:

Phenom: What made Charleston Southern the place for you in the end?
Briggs: After my visit, I felt I was able to be myself, I felt a part of the team and family already and the coaching staff is outstanding.  They were upfront and honest about everything and that is what really sold me.

Phenom: How did you inform the staff and what did they say when you told them?
Briggs: I called them and just got to the point and told the coach how much I wanted to play for him and the staff and they were even more excited.  They were confident in them getting me before though.

Phenom: What was your relationship with the staff life?
Briggs: The relationship felt like a best friend feeling, very open and honest while being able to be ourselves.

Phenom: What do they think you can bring with your game to that program?
Briggs: My game-ready body, energy, pace, and scoring. Facilitating and leadership while being aggressive defensively.

Phenom: How has it been at The Burlington School so far? What is your excitement with them this year?
Briggs: The Burlington School has been great.  The adjustment has been smooth, competing hard every day with my high-level teammates day in and day out has been very good.  My biggest thing has been the coaching staff and the schedule, along with the level of opponents we will be playing. I will really get to show how good I am.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“Continuing onto a player that consistently stands out as one of the most productive prospects in the state, Kheni Briggs. He’s a big, strong, intelligent guard prospect with a phenomenal downhill sense and the ability to physically overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. Briggs is an excellent finisher with the combination of strength and athleticism to finish above or through contact. He’s a quality defender and rebounder with the ability to effortlessly push the break and make smart decisions with the ball in his hands. Next in his development process is working to tighten up his shooting mechanics, as it would allow him to have a quicker release point without compromising consistency. Coach Dilligard on Briggs: “Kheni has a world of talent. He is athletic, strong, tough, and has leadership ability. When he decides to turn it on, he gets it done. As he continues to develop his outside shooting, it will open even more doors for Kheni.” Briggs has been one of the most productive players throughout his high school career, including at camp, and should continue to attract Division I coaches over these next two seasons at A.L. Brown.” – NC Top 80 Evaluation in 2020

“Coming off a 32-point performance, Briggs came in looking to continue his great start.  The sophomore guard plays with great physicality and really can get downhill with his frame.  He has an incredible explosion and it is hard to keep him out of the paint.  As a guard, he plays with tremendous strength, taking and bouncing off contact to finish multiple times.  Briggs continues to work on his perimeter game and it shows, as he displayed confidence with a smooth stroke from deep.  The defense really tried to lock him down and take him out of the game but he still was able to play his game.”

“Although he’s the most recent addition to this roster, everyone should already know about Kheni Briggs and what he brings to a team. It’s somewhat of an interesting fit, given their slew of talented (returning) backcourt players—but Briggs seems to emerge as a valuable piece in every possible setting. The Spartans’ practice was no different. Briggs is such a steady, reliable, naturally productive all-around guard with the blend of IQ, toughness, and low-maintenance identity to make his presence felt in a variety of ways. He’s always been armed with a strong, physically overwhelming frame, yet his poise and polish seem to be arguably more appealing. Briggs makes excellent decisions with the ball in his hands and can easily assume point guard responsibilities in a pinch. Given his role with Team CP3, he’s going to be inevitably adaptable to any situation. Add in his defense, rebounding, and all-around scoring, and it’s difficult to feel anything other than excitement about this addition. Briggs already has a ton of offers, but expect his list to continue expanding over the coming months.”
