Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Julian Kiett
Class: 2022
Committed to: Kilgore
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“He’s a long, athletic, high-motor guard prospect with phenomenal size and physical tools. Kiett is fairly skilled and can score from all three levels, but is nearly unstoppable from attacking the basket and finishing above or through contact. He handles the ball very well and is capable of creating for others, but also operates quite effectively as an off-ball cutter. Defensively, Kiett is an overwhelming presence with the necessary energy to overwhelm his assignment on a regular basis. He forces turnovers at a consistent rate and does a great job of making his presence felt in transition. Next in his development process is working on his consistency as a shooter off the dribble, as it would make him tougher for opponents to contain.”
“It seems as though a long, athletic, high-motor guard with toughness, defensive prowess, and playmaking ability would be a priority amongst scholarship-level programs. Kiett is also an excellent transition player and displays an understanding of how to make hustle plays and overwhelm opponents without necessarily requiring the ball in his hands. Add in his unselfish mentality and positive attributes as a teammate, and there’s no reason for him to hold less than an abundance of offers.”
“It should be somewhat obvious to see Kiett’s name appear on this list, especially given everything he’s done over the course of his high school career. The whole situation feels strange since he possesses the size, athleticism, and low-maintenance identity to be an impact player in every type of setting. While his physical tools tend to get the most attention, Kiett also displays skill and sharp instincts on either end of the floor. His combination of motor, toughness, and unselfishness makes him the exact type of player that more coaches should covet, as he simply knows how to win. It shouldn’t be this difficult for someone like Kiett to collect offers from all types of scholarship-level programs throughout the region, so hopefully, his recruitment properly takes off in the coming months.”
“Find me a player in the gym tougher than Julian Kiett and I’ll walk with you to go see them for myself. Kiett embodies what coaches look for when searching for “dogs” to play for them. His intensity on the defensive end is one of his more notable traits, with his face telling the story of how locked in he is in each possession. He has a desire to secure on-ball steals, and his team really feeds off of his defensive momentum overall. Aside from simply performing on the defensive end, Kiett is an elite athlete. The type of player that immediately makes you wonder if he plays football, without sacrificing any skill. In my opinion, Julian is a no-brainer scholarship-level player. I think he’d thrive in a conference known for its physical play, and aggressively versatile guards.”
