Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Josh Scovens
Class: 2022
Committed to: Army

What the Player Said:

Q: What made Army the place for you in the end'
Scovens: Army was the right place for me once I took my official visit and got a better understanding of the school and athletic program.  I fell in love and the coaches with me from the beginning.

Q: What do you think you can provide to that program with your game'
Scovens: I can provide a high motor on both ends of the floor, also while being able to defend and score the ball.

Q: What was your relationship like with that program all throughout your recruitment'
Scovens: My relationship has been great with all the coaches at Army.  I love the family feel and what they are building up there.

Stats Last Season:

Scovens is having a tremendous season as a senior at Page high school, as he is averaging 20.0 points per game and 4.1 rebounds in just 18 minutes (on average) of action. Scovens continues to show how productive he can be on the court. The 6’6 prospect has continued to elevate his play from when he was a sophomore (3.3ppg) to now as a senior.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“He’s a smart, tough, well-rounded wing/forward prospect with the ability to naturally cause matchup problems with his versatile offensive game. Scovens can legitimately lead an offense, given his strong blend of IQ, vision, creation skills, and three-level scoring prowess. He can work with or without the ball, and actively change his approach based on matchup. Coach Bernardi on Scovens: “Josh had a great day. He made huge plays in both of our victories. His shot looks really good and he made big ones throughout the day—including an and-one three to put the squad up by one. He is a big-time kid that puts the team first and will help teams win. He can defend and rebound at a high level. Josh will have a huge season at Page.” Scovens shined throughout his time at camp, and should certainly continue to see an uptick within his recruitment over the coming months.” – NC Top 80 Evaluation ins 2021

“It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.  I’ve been putting in the work and I knew it was only a matter of time but it was like the biggest stress reliever ever.  My excitement level was through the roof because I knew I finally proved the doubters wrong.” – Scovens when he first earned the offer from Army

“Scovens is smart, tough, skilled, athletic, and versatile on both ends of the floor, which basically makes him a walking mismatch against most opponents. He possesses a long, fluid frame with sharp defensive anticipation, excellent rebounding instincts, and the necessary polish to handle the ball in transition or effectively create for himself or others in the half-court. Scovens scores the ball at an efficient rate from all levels but also displays terrific cutting instincts and understanding as a spot-up threat.” – Phenom in May 2021
