Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: DJ Nix
Class: 2022
Committed to: Cornell

What the Player Said:

Q: What made Cornell the place for you in the end?
Nix: I think being the most complete person on and off the court is what intrigued me the most and I feel like I can achieve that at Cornell.

Q: What has your relationship been like with that staff overall?
Nix: I really enjoy talking to coach Ginsberg.  He’s a great guy and very personal.  Meeting the whole staff and getting to talk to them at a game I went to really made me feel at home.  I enjoy them a lot and am looking forward to getting to know them better.

Q: What do they hope you can bring to the court in the coming years and how to use you?
Nix: They play the fastest pace in basketball and shoot a ton of threes, which I do very well. I can get downhill to finish strong and make plays for others. I am versatile offensively and defensively, which makes Cornell the spot for me.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“Next, we look at a player who has continuously made strides within his overall progression over the years, DJ Nix. He’s a big, strong, mobile forward prospect with inside-out ability and the tools to alter his approach simply based on matchup. Nix has always been a reliable penetrator, cutter, and rip-through driver, but also shoots the ball at a high percentage from distance and shows a willingness to make the extra pass whenever available. He displays an active motor and quality feel for the game, able to defend multiple positions, operate in various roles offensively, and make his presence consistently felt on the glass. Nix plays a very steady, straightforward game and seems to produce in various different ways. Coach Bethel on Nix: “DJ is a strong, athletic wing that has the ability to finish or stretch the floor by shooting the deep ball. Plays hard, makes hustle plays, and possesses a fairly well-rounded skillset.” Nix proved to be an asset at camp, and should be a target for various programs over the coming months at Cannon.”

“Nix and Karon Boyd put on another strong performance again.  Nix though is interesting to watch with how he can be used on the floor.  At 6’6, Nix can play an array of positions and be effective in all of them, whether it is initiating the offense and being a primary ball-handler, using his body to battle down low or get on the boards, or simply showing how he can operate off the ball and knock down shots. A lot to like about his game and how he could be used at the next level.”

“Watching the development of this 2022 all-state swingman has been truly captivating. Nix possesses one of the more unique play styles I’ve ever seen, as he excels in unsuspecting areas given his muscular frame and perceived “slower” style of play. When looking at Nix, along with his on-court movements, many may initially assume that he’s a player most useful on the inside. This is far from the truth, as Nix’s capabilities range across a wide variety of skills. For starters, Nix is popularly recognized as one of the more threatening catch and shoot prospects in the state, given his unwavering mechanics and preparedness to shoot off the catch. This week, he made use of his strength and put the ball on the floor well, getting to the rim at will.”
