Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Davion Cunningham
Class: 2022
Committed to: UNC-Asheville

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'North Meck continues to produce college-level prospects and some may have forgotten 2022 Davion Cunningham after he faced a tough injury that sidelined him for quite some time now.  But he is back on the court and showing that he can still bring that same impact as he did before, displaying his play-making ability, his speed, and his athleticism at the guard position. He thrives out in space and in transition, can get into the paint well, and finishes strong. He also can step out and knock down jumpers.  Cunningham is looking to be back where he was before the injury and should be reminding everyone of his game.'

'Simply put, Davion Cunningham is deserving of more Division I offers. He is one of the toughest competitors you will find. Coaches always say they want tough guards who can really defend. Davion Cunningham is that guy. He set the tone from the opening tip with his ball pressure on the defensive end. He made it difficult all night for the Chambers guards to get in a rhythm in the half court. He is active on the ball and anticipates well in the passing lanes. He turns defense into offense. He has always been a guy who excels getting to the basket off the bounce. But Cunningham has continued to showcase his ability to consistently knock down jumpers, especially in the midrange where he converted on four pull-up jumpers. He also showed his ability to knock down the catch and shoot three. Cunningham is a winner. He gives max effort, makes all the hustle plays that lead to winning. Teams are better when they have a player like Davion Cunningham.'

'Despite playing for a public school powerhouse, many folks aren't really aware of Cunningham. He attended our David Rose MDC in 2018 and performed quite well, but still had almost no buzz surrounding his name. His first recognition wasn't until a year later at our Phenom Opening with Team Loaded 704, where he was possibly the best guard within the entire program'not just their 704 squad. We stated, 'Davion Cunningham (Team Loaded 704) has been the most polished and intriguing prospect from this team. He's long, rangy, and offers a great blend of scoring, playmaking, and leadership.' His foundation was established, but it was still only the start of something bigger. Two months later at our Phenom Team Camp, we said, 'Davion Cunningham (North Meck) has the chance to be a special type of guard, young but smart and polished beyond his years. He has a very smooth skillset with the ability to fill up the stat sheet.'
