Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Russell “RJ” Felton
Class: 2021
Committed to: East Carolina
Stats Last Season:
Felton was an absolute monster on the court this past season for Aiken, helping his team to a 24-win season. Th 6’5 guard led the charge on the court, averaging nearly 24 points per game for his team and consistently impacted the game every time he stepped on the court.
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“He’s a strong, athletic, aggressive two-way guard prospect that offers instant offense and phenomenal defensive intensity. Felton is the ultimate competitor and can control the game in a variety of different ways. Coach Simmons on Felton: “Russ is just a beast! He has so many different skills but his motor and downright will might be his most impressive qualities. You are not stopping him from getting to his spots. He has a body like a tight end but is agile and graceful with a blend of power. He will posterize opponents if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. He has an all-around game that just screams out next-level. I believe that Russ is a must-have as a coach. You need a guy like him on your squad. He brings energy, enthusiasm, and the flat-out will to win. He’s always positive and a pleasure to coach. He also brings it on every possession on defense and if he gets in the passing lanes, it’s going to be a highlight on the other end. I believe after his performance today, he has established himself as an elite player and should really be on the radar.” Felton was undeniably impressive, securing the camp MVP with relative ease, and looks poised for a big-time upcoming season at Aiken.” – SC Top 80 evaluation
“Felton was an absolute beast and could have had more if he converted on a few more easy buckets. But he finished with 24, plays with tremendous energy, and simply physically outplays his opponents time after time. There wasn’t anyone that was stopping him from getting to the rim on Day 2.” – Patrick O’Brien from Summer Finale 2020
“RJ is extremely competitive and leaves it all out on the floor, even in pickup. He has a big-time motor. He excels in transition and open space where he can utilize his size, strength, and athleticism. He does a great job of using his strength to finish through contact at the end of drives. RJ rebounds extremely well. If there is a ball loose around the rim, there’s a good chance that he will end up with it.” – Colby Lewis from Savage Academy 2020
“The 6’3″ junior from Aiken gives all-out effort on every play. When you couple that with strength, athleticism, and skill, you have an uber-productive player. Felton went for 28 points on the day, he did everything from initiate offense, defend the oppositions best player and score the ball at each level.” – Phenom from Low Country Showcase
