Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Kellen Tynes
Class: 2020
Committed to: Montana State

What the Player Said:

PHR: What made them the place for you in the end and what factors went into your decision'

Tynes: I couldn't visit, so I did a virtual tour.  Nice campus, they get good crowds to the games and talking with the coaches, they are going to push me.  The head coach was the only one who said he was going to try and get a game in New York closer to home for me and when I heard that, it sealed the deal.

PHR: What kind of relationship have you built with the staff over time'

Tynes: A good one. I can tell just by talking to the coach and the rest of the staff how they wanted me and how I could get better and benefit from it. So it is good and we are all excited to get to work.

PHR: What do they have planned for you as far as using your talent on the court'

Tynes: They have another older point guard, so they want me to learn from him which is a great opportunity but with their system, I'm still able to take my shots offensively and pressure the ball on defense.

PHR: What does it mean to you to know that you will be playing at the next level and having this decision behind you'

Tynes: It means everything. I've dreamed of this moment my whole life and worked to get here. Not too many people from Nova Scotia have gone D1, so I hope it is inspiring to young ballers out there to chase their dreams even with all odds stacked against you.

Stats Last Season:

22 points, 5 steals, 6 assists

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

'He simply does it all and understands how to properly run a team on both ends of the floor. Tynes is very smart with the ball in his hands, which makes him a constant threat to set up others or assert himself as an efficient scorer from anywhere on the court. He plays with a phenomenal pace, always calm, never rushed, and able to breakdown opposing defenses at a sharp speed. Tynes displays quickness on either side of the ball, able to effortlessly get by the point of attack on offense while showing the ability to lock up his assignment on the other end. For a do-it-all guy like him, Tynes is criminally underrated and under-recruited.' – Jeff Bendel in 2019

'He plays with a great feel to the game, as well as patience.  He plays with a nice pace to his game, attacks when the opportunity was there, but also showcasing a tremendous ability to see the floor and defenders. Absolutely loved his leadership on the floor as well as his smooth jump shot that he showed many times.' – Patrick O'Brien in 2019
