As a basketball scout, there are plenty of times that we come across players that many haven’t heard of, but it doesn’t take long to see that they are a player that can play at the next level.  Back in July of 2021, we got our first viewing of 2023 6’8 Matai Baptiste, who was playing for Vaughn and part of the Ridley program.

At that time, we said this:

“I’m going to give you a name for coaches to look at… 2023 6’7 Wing Matai Baptiste.  The young man is versatile, great body, terrific at finishing at the rim, but also showing his outside game.” Patrick O’Brien in 2021 (Click Here)

A few days later, we wrote this article: Built for the next level: 2023 6’7 Matai Baptiste (Vaughan/ Ridley)

Fast forward to today, and that same statement stands today.  In all honesty, we are surprised more schools haven’t gotten involved but credit to the ones that have.  Baptiste holds offers right now from Siena, UC San Diego, and USC Upstate, but when talking to Baptiste recently, he has a few other schools expressing interest.

But back to his game; when you watch his game, there is so much to like, and he has really improved from two years ago.  He is a 6’8 guard/forward prospect that can be used in so many ways, has a terrific strong frame that allows him to play/ defend multiple positions, operates extremely well inside and out, can knock down shots from the perimeter, and also just has the natural ability to fill it up with ease from all levels. He is athletic, strong on the boards, creates and finishes at the rim, plays with a great pace, and has just a natural feel for the game.

To put it easily… It is simple to see why his recruitment should sky-rocketing right now.  That is why we are bringing the attention once again his way; coaches, you need to take a look his way.
