Phenom Hoops is just like everyone else… they are ready to see talent back on the court this season.  We have discussed a ton around the high school level, but we are as equally as excited about the upcoming college basketball season.  Which is why we are looking and previewing teams for this upcoming season.  Let’s dive into what we are looking at for each team.

Stats (2019-2020 Record: 13-19)
Scoring: 64.9ppg
Scoring defense: 70.6ppg
Rebounding margin: -5.0
Turnover margin: +0.8
Assists: 12.6apg
Shooting percentage: 40.2%
3-point percentage: 30.3%
Free-Throw percentage: 65.9%

Sophomore Campaign for Heath:
Sophomore Jay Heath had an impressive freshman season for Boston College, playing in 31 games (starting 30 of them) and averaging 13.1 points per game.  He really showed that he can stretch the floor with his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter (65 made 3-pointers) but will need to take the next steps in other areas such as free throw percentage, turnovers, and taking the next step in his game.  Will he be able to do so this year with new names around him than last year'

The return of Wyston Tabbs:
It’s been a while since we have seen Tabbs, with the last time watching him in action was back in the 2018-19 season, playing in 15 games and averaging 13.9 points per game. He has now been cleared and looks to be back for the Eagles, so it will be interesting to see how he reacts and what he can bring to the team this year with good talent around him.

Steffon Mitchell going to play a key role:
There are several teams that would love to have a player like Steffon Mitchell on their team. Mitchell will have more talent around him to help out but he continues to be that tough, defensive forward that gets on the boards. With his role and experience, playing in 92 total games at BC, Mitchell will play a key role for this team.

Transfers replacing key losses:
Coach Christian needed some key pieces to replace what he lost from last year and he will be looking at a few transfers to help him in that area.  Guard Makal Ashton-Langford is one that sat out last year after coming from Providence and looks to provide help in the backcourt.  Then you have Rich Kelly, a 6’1 guard that averaged 16.7 points and 4.5 assists per game at Quinnipiac.  Down low, you look at forwards like Frederick Scott, a 6’8 player from Rider that can be a scorer and get on the boards, James Karnik, a 6’9 transfer from Lehigh who averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, and then senior 6’9 Andre Adams, who is a Utah grad transfer that shot nearly 64 percent from the field.

Two more sophomores that showed promise:
Forward CJ Felder and Kamar Williams both showed promise as freshmen last year and it will be interesting to see what steps they are able to make.  Felder is one to really watch, as he got significant minutes and had some solid outings, including a 13-point, 6-rebound performance vs. Duke.
