Coach Tim Respass, Too Busy Coaching

It's no secret that Combine Academy has become a national brand in only two short years under the coaching leadership of Jeff McInnis. They are now considered one of the top programs in the country and their national reputation will only continue to grow. With the majority of their roster returning along with new additions, Combine Academy National will be in the conversation as one of the premier teams in the country.

While Combine Academy National has dominated the basketball landscape, Combine also fields a regional, global and two post grad teams. Their goal is to help as many players play at the collegiate level whether it is D1, D2, D3, NAIA, Juco and Community College. Since the high school basketball season has ended, Combine Academy has continued to play as a 'club team' coached by Tim Respass. These club teams have played in three Phenom events and it's evident that the team continues to get better and improve. Our very own Jeff Bendel was the first to make the following mention. 'I think it's time we start talking about Tim Respass (Combine Academy) as one of the more underrated coaches across the state, especially from a teaching and development standpoint. Very few people could do what he's done over the last calendar year.'

We took the time to watch Coach Respass more closely this past weekend at the Phenom Challenge. A few things stood out, no matter the score or the outcome, Coach Respass uses every opportunity as a teaching moment. He is constantly coaching and instructing his players throughout the game. Rarely does he speak to the officials with the majority of his time is spent correcting, teaching and coaching his players what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong. More importantly, after every game, he uses that time to instruct his team how they have improved. He is simply preparing his team to be successful even in defeat.
