Coach Rick's Getting to Know

6'3 2022 Will Kelly (Stuart W. Cramer HS)

The state of North Carolina is blessed with an abundance of basketball talent and there are times where a player may have slipped through the cracks, which is the case in 6'3 sophomore point guard Will Kelly of Stuart W. Cramer High School in Belmont, North Carolina. This past season, Kelly averaged 22 PPG, 8 RPG, 5 APG, and 2SPG. Kelly scored 540 points this past season as a sophomore and was voted First Team All-Big South Conference as well as to the All District 10 team in North Carolina. He has already received interest from ECU, Winthrop, Furman, Gardner-Webb and Elon.

In speaking with head coach Brad Sloan, he stated the following about Kelly. 'I have been a head coach for 21 years, have coached players who have gone on to play at various levels after high school (Juco to D1) and honestly feel that Will is the toughest and hardest working player I have ever coached.  He has excellent court vision and plays fast and physical.  Will has good size at 6’3, 175lbs and only just turned 16 years old.  He is well advanced beyond his years in his basketball knowledge and coachability.  Will always maintains eye contact when being spoken too, never questions coaching and is thick skinned.  In addition to being a pleasure to coach Will also has leadership that is rare.  He commands respect from his teammates due to his work ethic and his willingness to sacrifice his body for the team.  Will skips lunch daily to come to the gym to work on his game and routinely stays after practice (sometimes up to 1 1/2 hours) to get in extra work.  Will also is one of the most intelligent athletes you will meet and has a 4.25 GPA to prove it.  I can’t say enough good things about this young man!'
