Ever since Jalen first saw photos of his dad playing college football at Virginia Tech, it has become one of his goals to earn a scholarship and play basketball at the college level. With a 3.5 GPA, Jalen makes his academics a priority. He is also lead trumpet player in Matoaca High School’s performance and jazz bands. Jalen has always made it a point to work hard in all the things he has committed himself to do. His goal is to constantly improve in all aspects of his life and it is his desire to be the best all-around person he can possibly be. He is the son of Deonna and James Hargrove.

From Phenom Hoop Report Scout Patrick O’Brien after Jalen’s performance at the Phenom Hoop VA Top 80: “Hargrove is a newer name that really competed at the event. He has nice size, at 6’5, motor was excellent and he played within his game. Rebounded well and is under the radar athletic wise. One to keep an eye on”.

High School Coach Evaluation:
Jalen’s upside is off the charts! He is long, athletic and he competes on every play. Jalen is a walking double, double. He will play the 4 and 5 this year for me. His ball handling is underrated; Jalen is allowed to start the break when he gets a defensive rebound. As Jalen’s jump shot continues to develop he will move to the 3 spot. Once Jalen transitions he will be a matchup nightmare for opposing teams. – Coach Michael Knights, Head Coach – Matoaca High School Basketball

Coach Frank says:
Jalen is one of the most versatile and most athletic players I had the opportunity to watch during the spring and summer. He has nice size at 6’5 and a strong frame. He is an explosive leaper and has very good quickness and a great motor. Jalen can post you or take you off the dribble. He has an impressive array of back to the basket moves and finishes with contact. He has great bounce and is an excellent repeat jumper, pounds the glass relentlessly and is an excellent shot blocker. Jalen is a skilled wing with a crafty handle who can get to the basket and finish. He can shoot it with good range and score off the bounce. Jalen is an impressive prospect because he can do so many things at a high level and has the athleticism, strength and quickness to execute his scoring arsenal. He defends the paint and the perimeter with equal effectiveness and competes at a high level. Watch his stock continue to skyrocket as his high school career progresses! Jalen should begin piling up D1 and D2 offers as he has all the tools to be successful on the next level.
