Carter Collins has been a name that Phenom Hoops has been high on for some time now. This kid is simply talented in several areas of the game, especially getting buckets. We have watched him for some time now in several events over the summer, playing with the Durham Hurricanes and he continued to impress us day in and day out.

Now, Collins can say he has an official offer on the board, as Columbia was the first program to send an offer his way. But that might not be his last, as we spoke with Collins shortly after the news.

Check out our Q&A with Collins:

PHR: Heard the great news today about the offer. Congrats.

CC: Thank you so much. It is calming to know that all the hours you spend in the gym everyday does lead somewhere positive.

PHR: We know that you have been working hard towards that. How did you hear about the offer'

CC: Well Coach Phelps came down to open gym and pre-season workouts this afternoon. And when we were finished, I talked with him and he said “I’m going to be the first one to tell you, we would like to offer you.”

PHR: That’s great. So what are your first thoughts on the offer and program'

CC: It’s a very prestigious school, great academics, so that is something I definitely look for in a college. I understand that their program has never been to the NCAA Tournament, so that is one of their goals they are trying to achieve. I have a great connection with the coaching staff.

PHR: Have you been hearing from any other programs'

CC: Yes, Navy, Davidson, South Alabama (they came to my workouts Wednesday morning), East Carolina, Old Dominion, Virginia (some mail), Siena, and Charlotte.

PHR: Which ones of those have been showing the strongest interest'

CC: South Alabama, East Carolina, as well as Columbia

PHR: What are those programs saying and which might be the closest to offering you'

CC: South Alabama will probably be the next school to offer. It was implied that they would offer.

PHR: What are your next plans you have' Any visits'

CC: I’m scheduling an unofficial to Navy and want to take an unofficial to Columbia soon.

PHR: What might you be looking for in a program at the next level'

CC: I’m looking to connect further with the coaching staff, learn more about the basketball program, learn their style of offense, and looking for a welcoming campus I can see myself in, and also the facilities, as I would be spending the next four years there.
