Phenom Hoops kicked off the season in a big way with the Carmel Christian Tip-Off Classic, bringing in some of the premier talent and teams from around the region under one building in Charlotte.

We continued down the schedule, as two local teams squared off in Northside Christian vs. Cannon.  Two evenly matched teams traded punches early on in the first quarter, as Cannon was led by DJ Nix and Karon Boyd and Northside was led by Mychael Mitchell and Antonio Perkins.  With Northside holding the slight 17-14 lead after one, their offense started to turn it on and jump shots started to fall, especially from their guards.  It helped them open up a double-digit lead in the second quarter and ultimately leading by 12 at halftime, 40-28.

Northside Christian came out strong once again to extend their lead but Cannon wasn’t going to go out without a fight, as they started to chip away at Northside’s lead.  Eventually cutting it down to single digits, it was Nix that helped lead the charge as Cannon found themselves down 47-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

Northside Christian continued to hold their lead but Cannon continued to chip away late, scoring strong down in the paint and getting to the line.  They were eventually able to get it down to as many as four late but the guard play of Northside stepped up big late, knocked down some big shots and ultimately secured the win from the line.

Final: Northside Christian 60 – Cannon 53
