Carmel Christian’s MLK Showcase presented by Phenom Hoop Report is going to be a day of incredible basketball. There are going to be numerous nationally ranked prospects, teams who will be vying for state championships and players who are atop college program’s recruiting boards.
Playing in Carmel Christian’s MLK Showcase, Carmel Christian is the number 1 ranked school in Phenom Hoops NCISAA/NCHSAA combined ranking. Trinity Christian is ranked #5, Asheville Christian #8 and Concord 1st Assembly is ranked #15 in the Phenom Hoops NCISAA polls. Lincoln Charter is ranked #8 in the Phenom Hoops NCHSAA polls. Duke commit Joey Baker is the #3 ranked junior prospect in North Carolina and #27 ranked prospect in the country. Without question, this is THE region’s must see MLK event.

One of the storylines we will be following during Carmel Christian’s MLK Showcase will be the 530PM drag-out matchup of Trinity Christian Vs. Asheville Christian. Trinity Christian, out of Fayetteville, North Carolina, is the #5 ranked team in the NCISAA. Asheville Christian, out of Asheville, North Carolina, is the #8 ranked team in the NCISAA.
Both teams have numerous Division 1 prospects with numerous Division 1 offers. As we mentioned above, Trinity Christian is led by Duke commitment Joey Baker. They also have 6’8 junior Greg Gantt (ranked #65 nationally) who has offers from the likes of South Carolina, Providence, Virginia Tech and others and 6’6 junior Audiese Toney who has offers from the likes of Virginia Tech, VCU and others. Their junior guard duo of 6’3 Talton Jones (Western Carolina offer) and 5’11 KJ Marshall are also highly recruited prospects.
Asheville Christian, also carries numerous prospects, to go along with great size. 6’3” junior Caleb Mills leads the way as a Top 20 player in the deep North Carolina 2019 class. He has numerous Division 1 offers. Backcourt mate Raishaun Brown also carries a Western Carolina offer. The Asheville Christian front court of Unsigned Seniors 6’8 Justin Tene and 6’10 Elochukwu Eze.

How Will Trinity Christian Deal with Asheville Christian’s Big Men
While Trinity Christian has a roster full of talent, all of their guys are wings and guards. Asheville Christian post play is led by a couple of long, bruising and athletic big men. Tene has great hands and touch and Eze is a high level rim and paint protector. Along the same storyline, it will be interesting to see how Asheville Christian is able to match up with the speed and athleticism of Trinity.
North Carolina’s Fastest Rising Prospect, Greg Gantt
The national rankings were updated this week and Greg Gantt went from not being listed to the #65 prospect in the country. The 6’8” athletic forward can shoot, pass and handle the ball. He already carries offers from the likes of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, UConn and others. There is a lot of buzz around him, and it is all well deserved. Expect eyes to be watching.
Speed Speed Speed and Shot Making
Caleb Mills and Raishaun Brown for Asheville Christian can score the ball. Brown has the ball on a string and Mills scores it at all three levels. Trinity Christian’s starting five are all long and athletic with college ready frames. Look to see which team is able to set the tempo and limit their mistakes.
