Phenom Hoops went over to Queens University recently to check out Session 2 of the NCISAA Showcase, giving us a chance to get an early viewing of a few teams and what they have to offer. One team that was certainly on our radar to check out was Carmel Christian, a program that is coming off a state title and has a chance to add another from what we saw. Let’s dive into what we saw.

Carmel Christian

It looks like there will be a lot of change from last year for Carmel Christian, as they lost several key guys that will be playing at the next level.  But it looks like this program will just reload under Coach Badgett, as they will have several new names looking to lead the charge.  We first start with what could be one of the top players in the state in 2024 6’6 Jaeden Mustaf, who is strong, athletic, can get downhill, powerful, and assertive on the defensive end.  He will be teaming up with another do-it-all, strong prospect in 2023 6’6 Bryce Cash.  Cash played at Charlotte Christian before going to Carmel and should be a presence on both ends of the court.

As far as guards alongside the strong duo, watch out for 2023 Boston Smith who has been really rising up the ranks with his athleticism, his leadership, and his defensive presence. He should really be a name that catches more attention around the state for Carmel. 2023 Khamani Wertz is another incoming guard that will provide depth and outside shooting.

Down low, 2023 6’10 Kaleb Siler and 2024 6’9 Michael Marcus will be manning the paint, bringing a strong presence on the boards and displaying great touch around the basket.  Outside of these names, players like 2025 Ian Howard, 2024 Jackson Burnham, 2025 Brett Freeman, and others will provide depth in what looks to be a loaded group.

Coach Badgett has this team ticking early and will only get better. And even though it is early, there is no doubt about it, Carmel Christian will be a must-see all high school season.
