This season, Christ School has clearly been the best high school team within the public and private associations. They currently sit at 13-0 with a majority of their toughest opponents in the rear-view mirror. Outside of Combine Academy, no team has been able to challenge them with a single-digit result. The Greenies are coming off a state championship run, but one could argue this year’s roster is even more talented than the previous group. Let’s look at their individual pieces…
Everything starts and ends with the senior duo of Zymicah Wilkins and Madden Collins. Most of their offense is structured through Wilkins, an incredibly skilled big man with incredible feel, polish, and ability to control the game. However, Collins has made visible strides over the last twelve months and now stands out as an all-around leader for this group. Their balance is a massive part of what makes this squad so special, but the veteran leadership of Wilkins and Collins is extremely reliable. The arrival of Dacen Petty has been a perfect marriage for both sides, as he’s been a productive, seamless addition to the team. Though his numbers might not pop off the screen, Tyler Jones is arguably as valuable as anyone on the roster. Rounding out their core group, Mason Collins has already showcased a lot of unique qualities for a freshman.
That being said, guys like William Robinson, Thomas Vickery, Koen Booker, Jo Ahart, and various others play meaningful roles and possess college-level abilities. Over the next nine days, they will play against Asheville Christian, Paul VI, Mount Zion, Rabun Gap, Asheville School, and Chambers. They’ll certainly have a chance to run the table, but it’s unclear if that’ll even matter or affect their chances to finish as favorites to secure another championship.
