The second day of our third annual Tyler Lewis HoopFest continued on with a battle between two of the Triad’s top programs in Calvary Day and Bishop McGuinness. In addition to the talent on both sides, these squads are very familiar with each other. Each roster has several players from within the Spartans’ organization, combining for nearly a dozen between the two teams, which only added to the intensity and overall atmosphere. The opening quarter of play featured the start of what would become an incredibly even-matched contest. Although the Villains held a 13-10 lead after the opening eight minutes, no lead was safe. The Cougars responded by maintaining their aggressiveness, running quality sets, and allowing their key pieces to dictate the action—resulting in a 33-32 advantage at halftime. Following the break, Bishop started to mount a strong lead (55-44) before Calvary fought their way back into a one-possession game. Although it was anyone’s game down the stretch, the Villains secured a 72-66 victory over Calvary Day.
