What does the commitment mean to BYU:
BYU is on the board as far as recruiting when it comes to the Class of 2025, as Burgess is its first commitment for that class. He earned an offer back in the summer playing with the Utah Prospects and recently took a visit in October to BYU, and it seemed like he really enjoyed it. In a recent article, he had this to say about it:
“I really enjoyed spending time with the team. It’s a really great group of guys that were great to be around. The coaching staff is great. They really laid out a vision of what this team will look like over the next 3-7 years when I come back (from my mission). Each coach spent time with me and made me feel welcome. Coach Young spent 1 on 1 time with me breaking down my game and my fit for what he wants to do on both sides of the floor.”
Burgess had been recruited by several programs but narrowed it down recently to Illinois and BYU, but BYU is within his family and it looked like those deep ties went a long way. His mom and dad both played at BYU, and his uncle Chris Burgess is a BYU assistant.
When it comes to his game in looking at the highlights, he is an interesting prospect with his size and ability to stretch the floor along with ability to make plays. He stretches the floor well, gets to his spots from multiple levels, can make plays off the bounce to finish at the rim, and moves well all around the court. I think he could be a very valuable piece and I’m eager to learn more about his game and what he can do at BYU.
