Five names that really performed well this past weekend at Cox Mill HS

There was so much known talent in the gym. It was a gym full of talented players who competed. Another beautiful thing is when you play in front of a lot of fans and have the type of platform that Phenom’s Feast of Champions provided, prospects seem to come out of the woodworks.

As with most of Phenom Hoops’ events, this one was no different. We had numerous college coaches show up to see the talent on, and many walked away impressed with names they hadn’t seen prior.

Here are some instant stock boosters from Phenom’s Feast of Champions.

MJ Armstrong

6’3″ 2018 MJ Armstrong – Gaston Day (Gastonia, NC)

Armstrong showed to be one of the elite shooters in the state of North Carolina. He made 7 threes in his game, and showed it off in a variety of ways. His shot prep was good, but he also showed the ability to create his shot off the bounce. Armstrong is a good athlete who just picked up his first offer (Northern Arizona), that will change soon.

6’2″ 2019 Nas Tyson – Forest Hills (Monroe, NC)

Forest Hills is a really good team, and Tyson may be the best prospect on the team. He has great length and is a very active defender and showed the ability to score at all 3 levels. Tyson’s team should win a lot of games this year, he will be right in the middle of that. WIth a Hampton offer in hand, colleges should watch closely here.

6’6″ 2018 Gerrale Gates – Butler HS (Matthews, NC)

Gates already carries a D1 offer, however more should be on the way. He carries the body of a tight end, but is a very good athlete and is as strong as a bear. Gates is incredibly active on the glass and has great hands and passes the ball well. Gates is a lock for a double/double. Rebounding is a skill set that translates, watch for his recruitment to pick up.

Blake Preston

6’9″ 2018 Blake Preston – Charlotte Christian (Charlotte, NC)

Preston is a throw back type big. He has good hands and a great frame. Preston’s touch around the paint is great, with both hands, and ability over both shoulders. His game is on a rapid trajectory and will very soon be a highly recruited post player. With no offers currently, Preston may have some of the most buy now stock in NC!

6’5″ 2018 Anthony Hicks – North Forsyth (Winston-Salem, NC)

Hicks is a unique prospect. He thrives as a point forward as he pads his stats across all categories. In this event he had 12 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, to go along with his 9 points. He is a player coaches should take a look at now. A very good athlete who rebounds, defends, and handles the ball in the half court. Once the first off comes, many are sure to follow…
