Bishop McGuinness hit the road for their first matchup of the 2019-2020 season. Facing a senior-heavy Roxboro Community team that made the elite eight last season in the NCHSAA 1A state playoffs. The Bulldogs shot out of the gate with a tremendous start getting up on the Villains as much as 9 points in the first quarter. Bishop stayed true and went into the halftime locker room down 5 to the Bulldogs after a flurry of defensive stops and fast-break points to start the second quarter. The second half was back and forth with several lead changes and the Bulldogs seemingly took control of the game with a 6 point lead with 1:15 on the clock. Sophomore Dawson McAlhany (28 points) hit a three with 50 seconds to play to cut the lead in half. With a one-possession game, Villains junior point guard Nathan Fuller gets a steal on the inbound and hits junior Noah Allred for an and-1 basket at the rim. Noah hits the ensuing free throw to tie the game. The Bulldogs inbound the ball against Bishop pressure and dribbled it out of bounds on the sideline and the Villains had possession with 10 seconds to play. After the inbound, it was Nathan Fuller with yet another clutch assist, as he hit senior Jake Ledbetter for the game-winning layup with 1.5 seconds to play. A Roxboro final heave from 80 feet clanked off the glass as Bishop McGuinness escapes Roxboro with a victory to begin the season.

Bishop is back in action at Oak Level Baptist Tuesday night in Stokesdale at 5:00 pm.
