Leadership is such a common buzzword in basketball, especially when attempting to properly evaluate these young prospects and their desire to succeed at the collegiate level. It can come through communication, by example, or through other subtleties, but leadership is typically an absolute necessity from the floor general. Let's take KJ Garrett for example, someone who has never wavered in mentality and held tough as an on-court leader in basically every setting. High Point Christian has gone from'the'landing spot for coveted high school prospects to another quality private school without all the glamor. While numerous players have come and gone, Garrett has continued to captain the ship.'

In regards to his identity, Garrett is a smart, downhill point guard with quickness and sharp penetration understanding. He finishes well around the basket and absorbs contact effectively for his size, but also makes the proper read to open/cutting teammates whenever possible. Garrett is a capable perimeter shooter but arguably at his best when getting opponents on their heels and changing directions on a dime. He's great in the open floor, both with and without the ball in his hands, and simply knows how to make the right play on every possession. Garrett defends nicely, rebounds at a solid rate, and does a phenomenal job of being an emotional leader and establishing the tone by example. He certainly has the makings of a scholarship-level prospect and should find success wherever he ultimately ends up.
