This past weekend, Phenom Hoops returned back to the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina for another exciting grassroots event. The combination of atmosphere and overall talent led to a ton of standouts, competitive battles, and general buzz for the upcoming summer season. With so many college coaches still inquiring about unsigned seniors, we figured it would be advantageous to form a list of the top performers from the Class of 2021. Let’s look…
5’9 Sebastian Orama (North Florida Elite)
If anyone has embodied the “heart over height” notion during the current travel season, it’s Sebastian Orama. Sure, he’s somewhat unassuming at first glance. However, upon actually watching him perform, folks can quickly realize his clear abilities on both sides of the ball. Orama is an absolute dog, particularly on defense. He seems to force turnovers and overwhelm opponents with regularity, despite giving up size in literally every matchup. Orama displays an excellent feel for the game and runs a team with phenomenal poise. He’s a tough, heady playmaker and efficient three-level scorer with excellent leadership by example. Orama is simply a guy coaches should want alongside them in battle.
6’0 Brock Bowen (CC Elite White)
Although he’s already well-established as one of the premier three-point shooters in North Carolina, Brock Bowen decided to showcase the full arsenal over the weekend. He offered his usual amount of pressure from beyond the arc, but also highlighted the ability to actually run a team as the primary ball-handler. Bowen created for himself and others in transition and the half-court, regularly displaying IQ and unselfishness as a playmaker. He made his presence felt defensively and consistently battled for rebounds. Between everything he did this weekend and his aforementioned elite perimeter shooting, Bowen should be able to advance to the next level.
6’3 Dwayne Anderson (All Carolina)
With so many college programs seeking out toughness and defensive-minded players, it’s somewhat surprising that Dwayne Anderson hasn’t seen more action within his recruitment. Between his motor, frame, and all-around athleticism, he checks all the boxes from a physical standpoint. Anderson is a capable penetrator and useful off-ball cutter with the ability to finish above and through contact at the rim. He’s great in transition and understands how to force turnovers by aggressively defending opposing perimeter players. Anderson’s combination of size, strength, and quickness allow him to contain multiple positions and play bigger than his size. He could be a useful addition for various programs.
6’3 Nick Green (Team Push NC)
Though the entire Team Push NC roster could be listed on this group of standouts, Nick Green deserves some attention for his fairly successful first showing with this squad. With so many programs in dire need of shooting, Green seems like a pretty obvious target. He’s already long-established himself as a lethal threat from beyond the arc, especially off the catch, and that was only further solidified at our G3 Showcase. That being said, Green can also score off the bounce and attack closeouts with regularity. He’s a useful midrange shooter, rebounder, and capable defender. Green should have opportunities at the next level.
