Covenant Day is off to a strong start this season and this is a team that has some intriguing bigs helping lead the charge. 2022 Ifeanyi Ufochukwu is one, who is now committed to Boston but they also have a rising big in 2024 6'8 Michael Marcus Jr. Marcus is one that we got a chance to view quite a few times as a freshman and has steadily improved with his game, as the sophomore big has attracted some eyes his way.
We recently spoke with him to learn about the latest and the start of his season.
Phenom: How has everything been going to start this season'
Marcus: This season has been going fairly well.
Phenom: How has your game improved over the last year, now having a bigger impact this season for your team'
Marcus: I've become more confident in my abilities because of the work that I've put in over the summer. And because of the experiences that I've had over the summer as well.
Phenom: What areas of your game did you really want to focus on heading into the season'
Marcus: The main areas were my post and perimeter defense, my jump shot, and my post moves. As well as my game awareness.
Phenom: What has it been like learning and playing with Iffy' How has that helped your game'
Marcus: It has been a great experience. Practicing against him has definitely prepared me for playing against people taller than me.
Phenom: You received your first offer from WCU. What was that like for you'
Marcus: It was very exciting for me and it was also a milestone. It was a milestone that was telling me to continue to trust the process. And that what I'm doing right now is what I'm supposed to be doing.
Phenom: Do you remember how you heard about it' And what did they like early on about your game'
Marcus: I heard about it at the WCU camp that I attended. Where afterward, I was called up to the office to talk to the head coach. They liked that I was aggressive, that I was capable of being dominant in the post, and the fact that I could play two-way.
Phenom: Have any other schools been reaching out and showing interest your way'
Marcus: There have been some schools that have shown interest.
Phenom: Who has been showing interest your way'
Marcus: George Mason and Gardner-Webb.
Phenom: Any visits planned down the road'
