Day 2 of the Battle at the Rock in Rock Hill got underway, as Legacy Early College matched up with Byrnes to start the afternoon off. Byrnes came out strong in this one, with a few early three’s being knocked down to grab the early lead a few minutes in. Legacy answered right back and it was a game of trading baskets for much of the first quarter.
That trend continued, as many expected Legacy to start pulling away but Byrnes answered back each time with big shot after big shot, taking what was given and simply just making plays on the court. At the half, it was tied up at 37.
The second half kicked off and it wasn’t until later in the third quarter that Legacy was able to create a little space between the two, led by their zone defense and forcing outside shots. LEC found a little more success from outside, while McGowens started to be more aggressive. It helped LEC hold a 59-47 lead at the end of three.
LEC was able to retain that double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter but Byrnes continued to compete and it stayed around the 10-point mark throughout.
