This weekend, Phenom Hoops travels to Ambassador Christian in Huntersville, North Carolina to host our inaugural Ambassador Classic. The one-day event features six games with a healthy mix of programs from the public, private, and independent sectors. In preparation for the showcase, we will take a closer look at each matchup and overview some of the anticipated storylines…
Burlington Christian vs. Queen’s Grant
The fifth matchup of the day features a highly anticipated contest between Burlington Christian and Queen’s Grant. Although Burlington Christian (8-8) has seen some ups and downs after the departure of two major pieces, they have managed to remain competitive. The duo of Charles Pur and Karon Watlington basically carry the production of this group, but guys like Manny Vanhook, Larry Blount, and RJ Robinson each provide solid minutes. Meanwhile, the Stallions of Queen’s Grant (12-5) unsurprisingly hit their stride after some early growing pains and have gone 10-2 in their last twelve games. The college-level duo of Ian Howard and Geronimo Clark both visibly stand out as senior leaders. However, the young core of Chase Smith, Bobby Montgomery, Mekhi Allen, Cannon DeBerry, and Preston Scott arguably make this group as appealing as any roster in the state. In addition to the product on the court, the coaching battle should be exciting in its own regard.
