Only an incoming freshman, 2025 6’3 guard Trey Mckenney has quickly been making a name for himself. He had a tremendous summer playing up and earning the attention of college coaches, already racking in four big offers and he is excited about playing this high school season at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. Phenom Hoops checks in on the latest with this fast-rising star.
Phenom: McKenney, still only part of the 2025 class but how has this summer been for you' Who all did you play with and what did you take away from it all'
McKenney: I played with 16u Bates on the EYBL and I played 14u at Made Hoops Finale. I took away that the EYBL is full of great players, like you are playing at Top-100 kid every game.
Phenom: How was it playing on the EYBL' Had to be exciting playing on such a big stage'
McKenney: It was great. It gave me a lot of exposure that I already had but gave me more. It was great playing up on the EYBL and being seen on the big stage; it felt like some of the hard work is starting to pay off.
Phenom: Been racking in some impressive early offers. What is that like for you to get that early recognition from programs'
McKenney: It is good. It is also exciting because I grew up watching a lot of these same schools.
Phenom: Know it is still fresh but any early thoughts on the offer from TCU, your latest offer'
McKenney: Good, you know I just started setting goals and one of my goals was to get five Power-5 schools before my sophomore year and I’m working towards that.
Phenom: What other offers do you currently hold'
McKenney: TCU, Texas, DePaul, and Temple
Phenom: What was it like to get those offers from the Texas area'
McKenney: It was nice and very exciting because I have friends and a lot of people I know there.
Phenom: Do you know what other schools have shown interest your way'
McKenney: Yes, Memphis and Iowa State.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game'
McKenney: An all-around player that can impact the game with or without the ball and that can create for my teammates and make them better.
Phenom: What is your excitement about this upcoming high school season and leading your team'
McKenney: I’m so happy about this high school season. My team has a great chance to win states this year and I’m just trying to be a part of it and help wherever I need to.
