Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Tyler Gill
Class: 2021
Committed to: Towson

What the Player Said:

PHR: What made Towson the place for you in the end'

Gill: At the end of the day, it is about relationships.  I had other schools making phone calls and texting but I didn’t feel the same compared to Towson.  I could really tell the coaching staff wanted me and thought I could help their program out.  They were also offering me the best opportunity to come in and be able to play and make an immediate impact.  Also, their academic program was solid for what I would want to major in, and family isn’t too far from me, so that is what made Towson the best place for me.

PHR: What did the staff have to say when you informed them about your decision and how great is your relationship with the staff'

Gill: I told him on Father’s Day weekend.  He was really excited.  He seemed thankful for another son in the family.

PHR: What do they think you could provide to that program'

Gill: They think that I can come in and inject that type of winning mentality and keep doing what I’ve always been doing offensively and defensively.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:

“We have often heard college coaches make the comment, “you will play at the level you can defend.” With that in mind, we have been equally impressed with Gill’s defensive grit, determination, and most of all his defensive posture. Gill sits low to the floor with hands wide, has excellent lateral quickness, and active hands. He has the ability to apply intense defensive pressure on the opposing ball handler and has exceptional anticipation by stepping into passing lanes for either deflections or steals.” – Rick Lewis

“It was fairly easy to see the two-way leadership of Gill, who consistently fought to force turnovers, get out in transition, and make plays around the basket. He plays with great energy, especially on defense, and simply understands how to properly position himself at the point of attack. Gill gets to the basket with relative ease and finishes effectively with either hand.” – Jeff Bendel from Kinston MLK Classic

“He’s a long, wiry lead guard prospect with IQ, quickness and an unselfish two-way mentality. Gill does a lot of things well on offense, handling the ball, setting up others, and attacking the basket, but his defensive presence is simply game-changing. His ability to remove operating space, force turnovers, and anchor the defense as a leader/communicator was noticeable and provided his team with momentum throughout camp. Coach Smith on Gill: “Tyler’s defensive intensity was awesome! Multiple times during the event, he locked down his man, forced a turnover, and finished aggressively at the rim. With the addition of a consistent jumper, he has a chance to be an awesome player that can compete at a high level.” – ENC Phenom 150 evaluation
