Several players in the class of 2022 have been making their decisions about their future. One of the latest here in North Carolina, 2022 Donovan Atwell, recently announced that he would be staying in-state and playing at UNCG in the near future, giving the Spartans a knockdown shooter and a terrific in-state talent to help lead the charge down the road.

Phenom Hoops recently spoke with Atwell to find out what made UNCG the place for him in the end and what he hopes to bring.

Phenom: What made UNCG the place for you in the end'
Atwell: I would probably say the natural connection I had with the players on my visit. When I got there, I felt like they were already my brothers.' Also, I had a feeling in my heart that UNCG was the place I wanted to be.

Phenom: How did you inform the staff and what did they have to say when you told them'
Atwell: Coach Jones came to my school and watched one of my workouts and then came to my house for an in-house visit.  We surprised him by putting a picture of my family on the visit on the TV with the word COMMITTED across it.  He went CRAZY. He then called the rest of the staff and they were hype as well.

Phenom: What do they hope you can bring to the program'
Atwell: Great shooting and finishing to open up the floor on offense.' High-level intensity on defense and high energy in general.

Phenom: What is your focus on improving your game before heading to UNCG'
Atwell: I would say improving on ball handling and getting stronger.

Phenom: Also, what will it be like staying in North Carolina, playing in front of all your fans that have watched you over the years'
Atwell: It is everything!  A big thing for me was wanting my family and friends to be able to come to my games regularly and now they are going to be able to do that.
