There are countless instances in grassroots basketball where a player can be undeniably productive in various settings for a prolonged period of time, yet receive little to no attention from college coaches. That appears to be exactly the case with Chas Stinson of Hickory Grove and (primarily) QCAA, who shined throughout the summer and seamlessly transitioned into a leadership role during the current season. This article will highlight some of the glowing remarks that were written throughout the previous months and then attempt to understand why it hasn't resulted in offers…

In May, our Patrick O'Brien stated, 'Players carve themselves out a role on their team. At Hickory Grove Christian, 2021 Chas Stinson has carved his out with the program, and even even though he may go under the radar, he needs to start gaining attention for what he can provide on the floor. This past season, Stinson averaged 12 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.5 steals per game for the Lions, as he can easily be labeled as a do-it-all type of player. But Stinson is one that sacrifices and simply makes his team better with his winning attitude.' That was followed by our most recent game report, where we stated, 'After entering this contest as the Lions' most productive scoring option, Stinson was easily one of the best players on either team throughout this showing. He exploited straight line-drive opportunities, drew fouls, and finished around the basket whenever possible, but also regularly asserted himself as a perimeter shooter. Stinson utilized his length and anticipation extremely well to force on-ball turnovers, push transition play, and make smart decisions with the ball in his hands. Although his offensive showing was noteworthy, his toughness and instincts defensively were equally as impressive. Stinson showed the makings of a useful next-level player.'

So, in hindsight Stinson has shown the ability to succeed as a focal point and alongside noteworthy players. He's produced in all types of settings, highlighted the full arsenal, and simply has what it takes to make an impact at the next level. Stinson is a smart, versatile, fairly well-rounded wing prospect with incredible length, solid athleticism, and the ability to easily operate within various different roles. Though he's known for his scoring, Stinson has proven to be equally as effective as a defender or rebounder. His recruitment is still steadily increasing, but one should certainly expect to see Stinson at the next level.
