It was a big summer for 6’ 2018 Devon Dotson. He entered the Summer with no offers and a middling ranking, and came out of the Summer with five (5) offers and a top ranking.
Dotson has been coming to Phenom Hoops events for a few years now. After one of the recent NC Junior Phenom 150 camps, we wrote, “Dotson has an advanced skill set blended with athleticism that will make him one of the top players in his class in NC. He was one of the top 5 performers in camp and one of the best ball handlers/playmakers at this level. He was a “lockdown” defender and can make shots at all levels on the court.”
Dotson is aware of the Summer, but almost expected it due to his preparation through mastering the little things, “I think just staying in the gym through June to prepare for July. I paid attention to the little things that separate college prospects.”
Dotson now carries five (5) offers, spread throughout different conference and levels, “With the most recent offer (Winthrop) I have five (5) now, Clemson, Winthrop, Georgia Southern, Charlotte, and Hampton.”
Dotson is aware of what kind of player he is, and what he brings to the table. Dotson knows that his role is as a pressure causing playmaking and seems to relish that, Dotson says, “I describe my game as fast. I like to put pressure on the defense and make plays for my teammates, or myself.” True to form, Dotson also spends a lot of time in the gym working on his game realizing its not a finished product, “I have been working on my shot and explosiveness a lot.”
Dotson will play high school ball this year with a very loaded Providence Day team, a team that should be able to put five (5) Division 1 players on the court at one time. Dotson is very excited about the season to come and has high hopes, “I think we will be really good this season.”
