Every year, there are tons of high school prospects who get overlooked despite checking all the boxes. It’s pretty common to see coaches take a likening to a player and then (with or without reason) nothing happens. However, it feels like more college programs should be pursuing someone like Rylan Parkins of McDowell High School. He was a favorite amongst coaches during his travel ball season with NLPB, yet doesn’t seem to have the appropriate amount of traction within his recruitment. Where most would struggle to face the adversity, Parkins has been nothing short of dominant this season.

The Titans are currently 13-1 behind the leadership and production of Parkins. He’s currently averaging 23.1 PPG. Although no additional stats are available, Parkins is a quality rebounder who is likely putting up double-doubles on a nightly basis. He understands how to effectively anchor the paint on both ends of the floor. Parkins can attack off the bounce and space the floor if necessary but is usually at his best when operating out of the post. He passes well for his size and fills in the lane properly in transition. Parkins is a useful defender with the blend of size, motor, and strength to make his presence felt.

Simply a solid, impactful piece, it’s easy to see how Parkins would be a seamless fit for various programs at the next level. He knows how to play within a role or operate as a focal point and seems comfortable doing whatever is necessary to be an asset. In the middle of a highly productive year, don’t be surprised to see an uptick in his recruitment over the coming months.
