After winning a state championship and graduating four scholarship-level seniors, many folks naturally assumed Forsyth Country Day would be rebuilding for the future. Well, the future is now. Coach Esleeck and the Furies have picked up right where they left off, currently sitting at 18-3 with a slew of impressive wins under their belt. Following two early back-to-back losses against Charlotte Country Day and Covenant Day, this group would be nearly unstoppable over the coming weeks. Now, they enter the most difficult part of their schedule after an incredible win at Greensboro Day earlier this week. Can they maintain this current trajectory?
Despite the changes in roster construction, this group still subscribes to many of the same ideologies. Q Williams still dictates the action as the floor general and primary creator while taking on a larger scoring role. He’s setting the tone, averaging 18.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5.3 APG, and 2.5 SPG. Adam Horobey has quietly been one of their top guys, posting nightly numbers of 10.5 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 1.0 SPG. JR Adams is a tough, scrappy guard who can defend, hit shots, and make decisions with the ball in his hands. Sacha Geremski has stood out as a key piece through his high motor, pesky defense, and ability to fill in the gaps offensively. Chris Gomez continues to see his stock rise as an athletic guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. Rounding out their core, AD Dalton has rapidly emerged as one of the top freshmen across North Carolina and has the tools to be potentially special.
Right now, they control their fate in the conference. If they clear the slate and go undefeated over the next seven conference games they will be at the top of this notable grouping. Between Greensboro Day, Caldwell Academy, High Point Christian, Calvary Day, Wesleyan Christian, and Westchester Country Day, this collection of teams is as strong as any in the private school ranks. Given their current momentum, it’ll be exciting to follow this group throughout the rest of the season.
