As expected, the Phenom’s Sophomore 40 brought together some of the top talent in the state’s sophomore class, giving these young athletes a chance to compete and showcase their abilities. This year’s event did not disappoint, as an abundance of talent was on full display, leaving no doubt that the future of basketball in the region is bright.

6’5 2027 Thomas Vickery (Christ School) combines athleticism with a quick first step, allowing him to blow by defenders and finish strong above the rim. He embraces contact, making him effective in traffic and a reliable scorer around the basket. 6’2 2027 Jazir Wright McGhee will be a key addition to an already stacked New Hanover roster. 6’5 2027 Keyonee Terry (South Granville) brings tremendous versatility to the floor. A long, athletic wing, Terry makes an impact on both ends of the game with his length and mobility. Offensively, he continues to expand his game off the bounce, showing comfort in getting to his spots, knocking down midrange jumpers, and facilitating for teammates. His ability to play multiple roles makes him a valuable asset, and his development will be exciting to watch moving forward.

6’10 2027 Duka Vuksanovic (Asheville School) is a force on the interior, using his size and strength to carve out deep post position. He displays a soft touch around the rim and can score effectively with his back to the basket. His polished footwork allows him to create space in tight situations, making him a consistent low-post threat. Whether sealing off defenders or finishing through contact, Vuksanovic brings a strong interior presence that will be tough for opponents fits this season.

2027 Tayshawn Adams set the tone early with his aggressive play on both ends of the floor. Defensively, he pressured the perimeter with high energy and made multiple extra-effort plays. 2027 Brayden Gatling has displayed impressive consistency throughout today’s showcase. His off-ball movement positions him perfectly for high-quality scoring opportunities, demonstrating a keen understanding of spacing. Gatling’s ability to create off the dribble, paired with his reliable shooting touch from the perimeter, makes him a well-rounded offensive threat. Beyond his scoring, his advanced basketball IQ for his age enables him to make smart reads, setting up teammates and minimize mistakes.
