The past weekend, Phenom Hoops hosted our annual Team Camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Between the individual talent, collection of teams, and overall competition, there were a lot of meaningful takeaways. College coaches were in attendance from start to finish, and several players made lasting impressions with their play. Southern Wake was a team of interest after coming off a 23-10 overall record and they returned some strong talent as well as added a few.
From what we saw at the Team Camp, the Lions were able to go undefeated at the event and really introduce us more to some of the players that will be on the court. Here is what we had to say about a few players that stood out.
2025 6’7 Ira Wilson
“6’7 ’25 Ira Wilson (Southern Wake) has a great combination of skills and finesse to his game. Can handle the ball some, and looks to make the right play. Gentle touch 12 and in. Can do a little bit of everything for his size.”
“One thing is always consistent with 6’7 2025 Ira Wilson (Southern Wake Academy). He is productive every time I see him play. Versatile multi-positional player on both ends of the floor. High IQ. Good shooter. Handles well & has great vision for his size.”
2027 5’11 Kobe Plata
“5’11 2027 Kobe Plata (Southern Wake Academy) finished with a team-high 14 points in the win. Makes this team go. Pushes the pace. Creates paint touches. Makes the right reads. Picks his spots.”
2025 Seung Surmons
“2025 Seung Surmons is an X-factor for this Southern Wake team. High energy. Active on both ends of the floor. Good on-ball defender. Showcased his ability to knock down the perimeter shot.”
2025 Bryan Epperson
“2025 Bryan Epperson (Southern Wake) has been an intriguing prospect to watch here at the #PhenomHSTeamCamp. 6’7, long, athletic and really showed to be a scoring impact. Intriguing prospect to keep an eye on.”
