The past weekend, Phenom Hoops hosted our annual Team Camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Between the individual talent, collection of teams, and overall competition, there were a lot of meaningful takeaways. College coaches were in attendance from start to finish, and several players made lasting impressions with their play. Despite their roster being formed in a short period of time, it’s clear that Queen’s Grant is already an intriguing group worth noting. Let’s take a closer look at some of their pieces…
5’10 ’28 Bobby Montgomery
Though young, Montgomery is already a fairly well-known commodity who already possesses a ton of ability. While he received some opportunities during his eighth-grade season, this situation will allow the polished floor general to be a focal point and grow as a leader. Montgomery possesses a tight handle, sharp vision, and the ability to consistently create for himself and others. He scores in a variety of different ways, but prioritizes getting his teammates involved. Montgomery displays craftiness off the bounce and makes intelligent decisions with the ball in his hands. He’s also a scrappy defender with the necessary instincts to force turnovers at the point of attack. Already poised beyond his years, Montgomery should be the point guard of the future.
6’5 ’28 Mekhi Allen
There are a lot of young prospects with long-term appeal, and Allen has the tools to be one of the top players in North Carolina’s Class of 2028. He’s a long, rangy wing prospect with feel, positional size, and scoring prowess. Allen has already shown the ability to assert himself as a scorer from all levels, including notable shot-making instincts for his size and age. He’s a fluid athlete with a smooth jumper and an understanding of how to outwork opponents on both ends of the floor. Allen is a quality defender, active rebounder, and reliable threat in transition. Although he’s already quite talented, Allen is still just beginning to scratch the surface of his long-term potential. He should have a big freshman season, but folks should expect him to trend upward over the foreseeable future.
6’3 ’25 Ian Howard
Although the roster is full of youthful pieces, Howard should provide veteran leadership for this group. He’s already solidified himself as a college-level player with a well-rounded skillset and the ability to produce in various different roles. Howard mixes it up between attacking the basket and applying pressure as a shooting threat, but also displays solid vision as a playmaker. He offers a steady defensive presence and rebounds well for his size/position. Given his varsity experience, Howard should be among the more productive guys on this team.
6’4 ’25 Geromino Clark
Rounding out this group, Clark highlighted a lot of useful qualities during his time at team camp. He possesses a high motor and quality nose for the ball, as evidenced by his rebounding presence and ability to make hustle plays. Clark finished well around the basket, secured second-chance opportunities, and defended bigger than his size. Expect him to be a definite x-factor for this group.
