When watching this group over the weekend, this is a team that has developing talent and one that has prospects going a bit under the radar but could be nice pieces in the coming years. Looking at the guard position, they have plenty of options to go with.
2025 Jordan Patterson has produced time after time and clearly shows that he can be a scoring presence offensively. He is a force that dictates and gets where he wants, can create downhill and attack, and consistently can make plays for himself. Guards like Ian Howard, Dacen Petty, Christian Petty, and others all bring true value as well. Howard showed his offensive game has developed and he can make plays for himself and others. Petty really showed that he brings good pressure in transition, brings a physical feel to the court, and plays with toughness. Christian is a quick and explosive guard who can impact the game in a variety of ways, score effectively, and make plays with his speed. Much can also be said about Railey, a player who is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. He was able to flourish and impact the game on both sides of the court, create paint touches, and display good body control.
When it comes to size though with this group, you have several options. Starting with Peterson, a 6’9 prospect who does an excellent job in running the floor and impacting the game on both sides, he also can be an offensive weapon inside and out. Showcases his ability to stretch the floor but also use his length to alter shots and score in the paint with touch. Clayton is a fundamentally sound forward with good footwork and touch. He knows how to use his body well, scores well with angles, and is a willing passer out of the post. He continues to improve and develop nicely overall with his game and frame. And then you have Parkins, who is another steady presence with size at 6’7. Knows how to finish through traffic, can be an effective scorer on the court (something he has shown this past high school season as well), and can operate from multiple levels.
Overall, this is a group that should get more attention this summer. Many players come from out west of the state, and there is hidden talent to be found. NLPB will be in several Phenom events this summer, as they will be must-see throughout.
