Phenom Hoops provides one of the best platforms for learning new names, and we head to Prolific Prep to check out and learn about our latest prospect. A program that has produced talent year after year, it looks like they have another young big man to look out for. 2027 6’11 Obinna Ekezie is making his mark as a rim protector already, as we spoke to him more about his game, his development, earning his first offer, and his dream schools.

Game Description:

“I’ve always been a really good and fundamentally sound big in the post and that is where I score most of my points. I like to face up a lot because I have many more options off the face up especially being able to use my jumper. I can stretch to the three-point line and shoot the three well. I’ve developed my shot a lot at Prolific and it is a main part of my game now. I’m a really good shot blocker averaging around 5bpg throughout the season and my most was 14 blocks in a game. I can also put the ball on the floor when needed.”

Game Development and Showcasing More this Summer:

“I’m working most now on developing my body and being able to shoot it even better. I hope to show my handle and my shot more, as well as protect the rim at a high level.”

Earning First Offer (from California):

“I was really surprised and happy to hear it from Coach Matt; it was great. I haven’t been able to watch the team in person. But I really like the education they have there, as it is one of the top schools in America in that respect. Jaylen Brown one of the NBA players that I watch a lot also went to school there.”

Dream Schools:

“Kentucky and Duke are my favorite schools, and I would love to get an opportunity to go there.”
