Heading out to Ohio for our latest recruiting update, Phenom Hoops sat down with 2026 6’7 forward Anthony Thompson from Lebanon High School as he continues to play at a high level and grab the attention of college coaches. The offers continue to roll in, as he recently added an offer from Texas to his list. We discussed more about his season and game, and then dove into his recruitment early on.

Phenom: How has everything been going this season for you overall? And what have you been hoping to show with your game this year?
Thompson: Everything has been going well for me this season. My game has gotten a lot better with things like defense and leadership, which is something I really wanted to improve on going into the season.

Phenom: How has your game developed more this season?
Thompson: I have more of an all-around game offensively this season. Also, my defense has improved on the perimeter and in the paint.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game?
Thompson: I am a left-handed basketball player who is long and versatile. I like to impact games by playing multiple positions on offense and defense to help my team win.

Latest in Recruitment

Thompson certainly is attracting the eyes of high-major colleges all around the country, as he holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Kent State, Ohio, Ohio State, Illinois, Indiana, and now Texas as the Longhorns are the latest to join in on the party.

“The relationship is growing,” Thompson said about the offer from Texas. “It is still early in the recruiting process. We’re both learning about each other and the possibilities that are in the future. They have been keeping up with me for a while. I had a phone call with them last Thursday night, and they extended the scholarship offer. (They are a) Strong program with committed coaches and staff dedicated to helping players achieve success on and off the court.”

As far as all the programs that have offered, he would say that “all are solid programs with great history and bright futures.”

That offer list should only continue, as the 6’7 prospect also has been in contact with Marquette, Dayton, Xavier, and West Virginia. He also visited Purdue this past weekend. He has also visited all of the schools except Marquette, but he has plans to do so soon.

In regards to a dream school, he doesn’t have one specific school but is looking for a few certain factors when he ultimately decides.

“I want to receive a great education and play basketball at a high level with and against the best student-athletes.”
