In recent news, NC State welcomed in Miami on Tuesday night and they had one of the top players in the Class of 2026 on deck to take in the game and atmosphere. 2026 Justin Caldwell, a big man from Trinity Christian down in Fayetteville (NC), visited Raleigh to take in the game, as the Wolfpack have been expressing interest his way.

Sophomore 40 Evaluation:

“Finishing up, we look at a player who has all the tools and momentum to have a breakout season, Justin Caldwell. He’s a strong, athletic, physically imposing post prospect with a blossoming skillset and rugged two-way presence. Caldwell is a quality finisher around the basket, both through contact and out of the post, and displayed the ability to knock down perimeter jumpers if necessary. He plays above the rim and understands how to move without the ball to find opportunities as a cutter/lob threat. Caldwell possesses excellent tools as a defender and rebounder. Next in his development process is working on his awareness as a rim-protector, as it would make him a more complete player. Coach Neisler on Caldwell: ‘Justin dominated in every matchup. He’s an overpowering specimen but needs to work on the mental side of the game. Improving his effort in transition and on the glass would be his two main areas of improvement. He can continue to develop his on and off-ball awareness.’ Caldwell did a lot of things well at camp and should only continue to stockpile offers entering his sophomore season for Trinity Christian.”

We recently caught up with Caldwell to discuss more about his visit, what interest the Wolfpack has been showing, and what other schools have been coming early on his way.

Phenom: How has everything been going this season for you?
Caldwell: I’ve been averaging around 20 and 10 so far, and we have had a strong season so far at 20-5. We definitely could have won all our games but I didn’t lead well in those losses. I definitely think this is the year to win 2A.

Phenom: Recently made a visit to NC State vs. Miami. How was that visit?
Caldwell: It was a great experience. I got to talk to the players and coaches after the game.

Phenom: How long have they been showing interest your way?
Caldwell: For about four months, and I feel like there is a good connection there.

Phenom: What stood out at the visit?
Caldwell: Definitely the fans! The crowd was one-sided and they had the Miami players nervous.

Phenom: What all offers do you hold and who has been showing interest?
Caldwell: VCU, Mississippi State, Hampton, High Point, Radford, and Norfolk State (are the offers he holds). A couple of other schools have been reaching out also such as Illinois, Kansas, and Georgetown. They want to watch me play with their eyes; my film looks nice.
