The college basketball season is rolling through and of course, there are talks surrounding the upcoming NBA Draft and past that, so we thought we would join in on the discussion a bit. We wanted to highlight a player that many aren’t talking about on the highest of levels yet, but he could be a prospect to keep an eye on as a potential NDA Draft prospect. Sophomore 6’7 Cade Tyson has been putting in the work over the years, whether it was his time throughout high school to now shining at Belmont these past two seasons.
And when you dive into more of his game, there are factors that have to pop out when you look at his stats. He is coming off an excellent freshman year in which he won Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, averaging 13.6ppg, 4.6rpg, shooting 49 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three (48 made threes). And he has only surpassed those numbers as a sophomore this year, averaging an impressive 17.1ppg, 49 percent from the floor, and now 44 percent from three with 42 made threes already on the season.
He has shown over the years that he can be a consistent scorer on the court, and with his size at 6’7, he is an extremely confident shooter with a quick release behind the arc and a smooth form. But he also moves and operates on a variety of levels as well, finding ways to score inside, taking quality shots, getting out in space well, and continuing to get stronger. Right now, at his shooting percentages, he would be a Top-15 shooter in all of college basketball percentage-wise behind the arc.
Tyson has always been a proven shooter and is showing that at the collegiate level in a big way. And for a league that emphasizes a lot on size and shooting ability, Tyson could certainly be an entertaining player to keep an eye on. Though he still has room to improve in others of his game, Tyson (who certainly has an understanding of the NBA Draft from his brother Hunter Tyson) could be an option for organizations to take a harder look at down the line.
