Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Justin Ray
Class: 2024
Committed to: Monmouth

What He Said:

Phenom: What was it about Monmouth that made them the place for you in the end'
Ray: Definitely the people there. The relationship I have with Coach Rice and the entire coaching staff felt so natural and comfortable. Same with the players. Also, what they are building over there is promising and I think passing up an opportunity like that would be a huge mistake.

Phenom: What do they think you can bring with your game'
Ray: They definitely know that they are getting a player that feels comfortable creating shots for myself and for other players. I am also committed to being a leader and being a competitor on both sides of the floor.

Phenom: What will be your focus now with your commitment being behind you'
Ray: My main goal now is to have a successful the rest of the season with my team. Definitely looking forward to making something happen come playoff time.

What Has Been Said:

“He’s a smart, skilled guard prospect with phenomenal shooting prowess from the perimeter and the ability to consistently make plays with or without the ball in his hands. Ray creates well for himself and others and displays an understanding of how to make quality decisions when attacking. He does a quality amount of everything offensively while also playing with a high motor and consistently overwhelming opponents with his defensive instincts. Ray caused a ton of problems for opponents and truly showcased no glaring weaknesses on either side of the ball.”

“Moving onto a player who easily stood out as one of the top performers on this team, Justin Ray. He’s a smart, skilled, athletic guard prospect with the ability to outwork his assignment and produce in various different roles. Ray is a reliable creator, both for himself and others, who can set up his teammates, attack the rim, and convert clean looks off the bounce. He shoots the ball well from the perimeter, but does a nice job of consistently getting downhill and making plays. Ray contains his assignment well defensively, forces turnovers on a consistent basis, and thrives in transition. Next in his development process is working on his ability to move without the ball, as it would open him up to even more scoring chances. Coach Collins on Ray: “Justin has an all-around game. I am definitely a fan after watching him today. He’s a great athlete who can pass, dribble, and shoot. Consistently stood out as one of the best players on the floor.” Ray made a lasting impression at camp and should be a target for various college coaches over the coming months.”
