The final contest of our sixth annual Hoops and Dreams Showcase took place between Westover and New Life Christian. As expected, the atmosphere was excellent for these two local squads to battle it out. Things opened up with Westover gaining clear momentum and mounting a strong lead to open the game. However, that was short-lived, as New Life Christian quickly responded to end the quarter with a 18-14 lead. The back-and-forth play continued through the second quarter, but the Monarchs held a 36-32 lead at halftime. Following the break, neither team gave an inch. New Life maintained their lead, but Westover simply refused to quit—resulting in a 47-43 score entering the fourth quarter. In the final period of play, it turned to a one-possession game and remained that way until the final possession. In the closing seconds, Ari Fulton hit the go-ahead bucket and then blocked a shot to secure a 58-57 victory for Westover.
