Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Chol Machot
Class: 2024
Committed to: Mississippi State

What Has Been Said:

“Coming over to the US and making his presence at Winston-Salem Christian, one could see that this was a player that had a ton of potential but just needed time to adjust to the game.  Fast-forward to today, he certainly has adjusted well and is understanding more of what he is capable of providing on the floor. At his size, Machot can be a dominant presence on both sides of the floor.  He has an incredible wingspan and covers so much space on both ends. He has put in the work to get bigger and stronger, handling more contact and finishing stronger at the rim. But he also can hurt you in a variety of other ways, especially with his ability to step out and knock down threes comfortably, and run the floor extremely well.  Defensively, he can really lock down the paint for his team as a shot-blocker and on the glass.  Machot has nice timing in block shots and being that second-line defense for his team around the paint.”

“Given his elite size, incredible length, and excellent mobility, it’s easy to see what separates Machot from other big men. Offensively, he’s actually quite skilled. Machot is a great finisher around the basket and above the rim, showing the ability to utilize both hands and his insane length to his advantage. He’s a useful screener with an understanding of how to properly roll or pop out and apply pressure as a perimeter shooter. Machot already displays a smooth, confident shooting stroke from beyond the arc and hits jumpers at a terrific rate for his size/position. On the other end, he displays quality timing as a rebounder and rim-protector. His presence alone is enough to deter opponents from even attempting to attack the basket. Machot runs the floor properly in transition and knows how to fill the lane. Although he does much more, Machot is genuinely capable of excelling as a pure rim-runner.”

“He’s a long, skilled big man prospect with incredible size, fluidity, and clear long-term upside. Machot finishes well around the basket, both above and below the rim, and scores effectively out of the post. He’s a smooth three-point shooter with an understanding of how to properly assert his presence along the perimeter. Machot blocks shots at a high volume, rebounds his position, and runs the floor well in transition. His two-way ability naturally overwhelms the majority of opposing big men. Coach Hodges on Machot: “Chol plays with great energy. His basketball IQ is extremely high. Combine that with his ability to finish on anyone or step out to the three-point line and it’s easy to see the appeal. He produced on both ends of the floor.” Machot proved to be an asset at camp and should continue to stockpile offers during his upcoming senior season with Winston-Salem Christian.”

“Chol Machot should have a breakout season for WS Christian. Mobile, fluid center who impacts the game on both sides of the floor. Chol has tons of upside and potential. He has the ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shooting. Rim runs extremely well in transition. Chol also will cause chaos defensively with his ability to block and alter shots.”
