Lady Phenom went out to Greensboro to check in on the Bengals, as they welcomed in Grace Christian with both teams kicking off the season. GDS looked strong and flexed its muscles early, creating havoc defensively and quickly turning it into offense. It allowed them to jump out to a 19-0 first-quarter lead, and they only expanded on that going into halftime leading 41-4.
That trend continued in the second half with a running clock, as the Bengals were able to continue their swarming defense, limit Grace Christian offensively, and capitalize on scoring opportunities. At the end of the third quarter, GDS led 51-5 before eventually sealing up the first victory of the season with a 64-11 win.
Final: Greensboro Day 64 – Grace Christian 11
Standouts/ Takeaways:
2025 Azaria Scott (Greensboro Day): Liked what I saw out of the guard leading the charge. She was strong with her ability to create and get the offense set up, she made high IQ decisions, saw the floor well and found her teammates, and was a strong presence defensively. On several occasions, she was able to allow her defense to turn into offense. Crafty guard helping lead the way for the Bengals.
2025 Samantha Collins (Greensboro Day) is a smart guard and one of the clear leaders for this team. She plays within the offense but also makes her impact felt on both sides of the court. She is a confident shooter from multiple levels, makes high IQ plays, has a tremendous motor she plays with, but also does what her team needs her to do.
I like the size that the Bengals will be able to bring, as 2025 Liz Wyrick and 2024 Maja Rohkohl can really make a strong presence inside the paint and on the boards. Both really move well, carve out space down low in the post, and finish strong as well as with touch. They will be key pieces for this year’s team in several ways.
2026 Kynndal Morris and 2026 Audrey Lester (Grace Christian) were the two players that produced for Grace Christian, with Morris creating off the bounce and getting into the paint to look for her shot, and Lester was able to create at times to find scoring opportunities.
